So Far in 2026...Curtains...Quilty Throw....

Here is it already June 2026. New curtains out of remnants of Seattle Quilts.  Very cheery in the kitchen!

The flannel throw is finished as well.  All my flannel pieces except a few larger left over from other quilt backing projects.  No sewing project int he works at present...Summer will be quieter in the sewing area.  

 

Scrappy Asian Print projects...

 

Earlier in the year - October I think, I made this for a kitty...and then those Asian print pot holders - I really like making pot holders, i am a slow sewer but like to take my time and enjoy the process. 
 That wraps up projects from 2025. 

Scrappy Christmas Projects

 Did some pot holders with the four yards of holiday fabrics I bought earlier in the year at eQuilter. Used insulated batting, regular batting, backing fabric and then did the strips in QAYG. Fun!

 And then a Christmas table runner for the coffee table....

 

Asian Prints Throw and Kitty Quilts...and Potholders....

 Lots of Asian print scraps in my fabrics, plus lots of other Asian prints in fat quarters etc....going to be sewing some up....Throw was first....It's fairly large, and I quilted it in a wavy free motion pattern up and down the quilt.   After that came the kitty quilties...These are also quilted in wavy.  Scrappy bindings...made from the backing 108" fabric the throw used for backing!

 And then the pot holders.....

 

Korean Hanbok for 18" May...

 Finishing this outfit was a really happy event for me. I have had the pattern quite some time, and had the Kona and Moda cottons to make it. I did use a fabric with a faint pattern for the "white" trim on the jacket. The pattern is from Doll Tag Clothing, and several of her patterns are so very appealing. I have used one before as well. However, I have trouble with directions usually, and this time was no exception. So I sat and made a list of how to put this together my way, and it worked out. I sewed all the trims together before applying to the jacket. I left off the bodice on the dress and made a casing and a skirt - the doll will be wearing the jacket anyway. I bought the fabrics from a seller on eBay who has a lovely selection of these solids.  My Brother PS500 sewed this up without a qualm, even in the thick parts of the elastic in  the skirt waistband.  The doll is my May, but was sold by AMAZON as Zoe.  She is an Adora Doll sold on AMAZON, but no longer available I see.

Oh Sew Kat Halterall Looking for Summer...

 Just a simple little Playsuit. Pattern is Oh Sew Kat Halterall. I used some cute tiny floral fabric in a rather blah mauve color, with a preloaded bobbin from Superior Threads, and some So Fine thread ditto.  Looks good on Brinley!  I have another dolly outfit to sew soon as well. Plans are to sew the next one up, and then get busy on that fabled Asian print throw quilt I want for myself.   I should maybe do a trim on this little jumpsuit, but at least I need to press it. She seems happy with it, and sewing it on my Brother Innovis Pacesetter PS500 was a dream. The machine sews so smoothly and I love it. It is coming up on five years since I bought it.

Pot Holders - Using Scraps

 Using up scraps and various fat quarters.  I used insulated batting, regular batting, and squares of fabric, then I did QAYG on the top of the batting with various strips of scraps. The backs are one solid piece. I used leftover binding on two of these and made some violet print binding for the other two.  These are about 7.5 inches square but next time I am going to round the corners well and use up old bias tape. A useful and fun project.

Crane Panel by Kaufman Fabrics Finally Done....

 I finally finished quilting this panel. I pinned it for quilting in 2019, and mentioned it in this blog at the time...I love the fabric. I thought I would thread paint this. Well, it is partly thread painted and partly free motioned as in meandering. I find that my level of patience is not the level one needs in thread painting!  But I love this. The binding is a lovely fabric which coordinated so well with this panel. In short, I love this, and I might even hang it in the sewing-quilting area. 

Phoebe's Christmas QAYG Quilty and Another Kitty Christmas Quilty...

 Having a pils of scraps leftover for years from Christmas sewing, I decided to make cat quilts  - one for ours and one for Phoebe, my "grandkitty."  This actually used all my scraps! So glad!  The above picture is Phoebe on her new quilt. It is a strip QAYG, assembling backing and batting and then sewing strips cross the top, then bind - very fast way to make smaller items and looks quite good! :)  Below is a picture of it before gifting.  For the QAYG I used a fat quarter as the backing and that made the trimming extra easy! Size was same when done as a fat quarter.

The one I made our kitties is not as pretty! But it used quite a few scraps! It is larger than Phoebe's quilt by several inches each way.  It was nice that I used all the rest of the Snoopy fabric for binding!! On the one for our cats I used several strip scraps to bind.

Seattle 2024 Quilts for Grands...

Finished, sent received and LOVED!!! I used some fat quarters and some fabric cut to fat quarters by me. Seattle fabric was not generally available around here of course, so I grazed the interwebs. ETSY had a nice little shop on Whidbey Island called Undercoverquilts, and that shop had this lovely Seattle print! I wanted that theme for these two quilts, as my grands grew up in that area. Also I needed a masculine sort of quilt - no florals for the guys!  

 

Primary colors set this off I think, and the binding is from eQuilter, and is called Splatter 108 inch backing.  

Those primaries really made a good binding for the Seattle Quilt! I used my Elna 720 for the sewing and quilting, and Warm and Natural and Hobbs batting - 100% cotton of course. The backing is flannel in blue shaded prints. All in all it took me quite awhile to get these made. Designed by me. :)
 

Scrubs for 18" Doll

FINALLY got around to sewing up the 18" version of this pattern. :). Available here at Pixie Faire Love-U-Bunches Scrubs for 18"   Such a sweet little pattern. I do however fully line the top because that makes a much nicer neckline. See what I did here on the set?!  SEW much fun making things for the dolls.  I finished this a couple of months ago, and since then have been working on two throw quilts. More to follow on that later on.  Have taken up coloring book coloring again....little bit of line drawing as well. 2024 Spring Scrappy Quilt Finished...

Yes, I finished this quilty throw! I call it 2024 Spring Scrappy Quilt.  OMNI all the way - top and bottom, this was a fun quilt with 3.5 inch strips. Next one I do I think will be 4.5 inch strips on a larger center. But all the leftovers and scraps are about used up now - only three small pieces you could call "scraps" are left.  Onward to a new project...

 

Scrappy Throw No.2...

 

Oh yes! This is Scrappy Throw No.2.  Three and a half inch strips around a square starting piece. This was fun. I am finally getting it quilted on the Elna. Doing the sweeping curves again with AcuFeed.  Works well and seems implanted in muscle memory now as I have used the curves so many times. I am using OMNI thread in a light muted green on top and my preloaded light green Superior Threads So Fine 60 bobbins.  The batting is Warm & White, and the backing is a print of nostalgic Travel Americana that I have had around awhile. 

My Quilting Supervisor...and Quilting...

 She is still here and keeping her eye on me in all I do in the sewing area. Here, she is making sure my batting piecing comes along well with my joining foot. :) 

She didn't supervise my Pfaff when I was quilting the table runner...I suppose she trusts the Pfaff after all these years - the Pfaff will do a great job. :)  I insulate my windows on the sill every year with the leavings after trimming a quilt. In the sewing room. That really cuts the draft plus uses the leftovers wisely. ;) It is the trimming from all three quilt layers. The batting really cuts any drafts. Not going to look good in my House Beautiful layout I suppose though....HAHAHAHHA.....

Table Runner...Asian fabrics

 Asian fabrics table runner....the back is striking and is the dark red print shown above. Used Metrosene and Superior TWIST to quilt. TWIST began to separate when I was about two thirds done, so I switched to the same basic color in Metrosene, but of course Metrosene is not shiny and silky looking, but it worked.  Warm and White batting pieced with some Warm and Natural.  Bobbin was Superior Threads Bottom Line.

The family likes the back better than the front so that is what is upwards this time around. :) The pictures are difficult because of the 60" length of the piece, and the butterfly print just does not photograph well. In person it is very lovely and so is the turquoise with gold high lights.

Three More Kitty Quilts...

 Here is the Kiki Quilt for Kiki the cat. I gave a whirl at partial seaming and really it is so much FUN! So the next one is the lovely Phoebe quilt.  

Another partial seamed but with all the Asian prints it gets kind of lost but I notice that the pictures really do not due the quilties justice! SO pretty in person. Love making the scrappy quilts.

And this one! Pure scrappy from my scrap pile for our own kitties - you cannot have too many kitty quilts to put on chairs, etc. for the kitty fur to leak on. Enough quilties to wash and replace. I used oranges here that I knew I just did not like. Had fat quarters. But when the quilt was done it really does look nice in a chair. :)  Fun wrapup to the year!

OMNI and Me...

 OMNI from Superior Threads is my favorite thread. Someone asked how the 6000 yard cone fits on my machine - well, with a machine with builtin thread stand on the back you do have the room. I keep at least one spool of OMNI on my machine at all times and that means just SEWING when I want to. I have four basic colors - all sort of mellow tones - grayed out a bit. Pink, blue, yellow and green. At the moment I am using the sagey green one. :) It has quilted two kitty quilties and a few other items over the last month or so.  I just wish they sold it in smaller spools! There is a TRY ME of OMNI and you can choose white or a couple of tans. I have those as well. LOVE them.  They are - I think - 1500 yards.

National Park Panel Whole Cloth...

Even though there was no piecing involved, this was a project that took time. My Warm & Natural Batting plus the weight of the panel and the backing fabric - it was heavy. Took me quite awhile to do the curved walking foot quilting, and then I loved doing that binding. I used Timeless Treasures "Shimmer" for the binding. The top thread is OMNI in a tan, and the bobbin thread was prefilled So Fine 60.  Meanwhile I ordered two large cones of OMNI, and gave away over 12,000 yards of good threads to make room for my two new cones of OMNI in a pastel yellow and faded light sagish green. Whisper Green and Lemon Cream.  The backing is Prairie 108" Wide Pink from Lori Holt for Riley Blake Designs. It is lovely fabric of a slightly heavier feel than light quilting cotton. Beautiful stuff. 

 

As you can see - I had help making the quilt. :) Pearl always has to inspect the work in progress. 

The quilt is for my dear daughter-in-law. She is a pleasure to know and a wonderful person. She loves National Parks and has taken the family to quite a number of them. I wanted to make two quilts for each of my kids and for her as well. I don't know how many more large quilts I have in me at this point. The weight is difficult to work with in the quilting, but I do love quilting itself.  The National Park panel I bought at eQuilter. It is a Riley Blake Design as well, and measures 54" by 72".

Ladybug Pincushion Fun...

I had bought the book sometime ago, and finally decided to sew this little guy up. I skipped the tulle wing-like thing, and went for simpler eyes. I had the red and black dotted fabric remnant, and it's so cute! Filled with chopped batting leftover from other projects. had the black print from way back, so this was a fast and useful project. Would make a cute little gift for someone as well. The book is called Make Pincushions. 

 

 

Meanwhile, working on a largish quilt....more on that later.

Covers...A Vital Topic...

 

The question of covers came up on PR today...to cover or not to cover. Of course to cover is the answer unless you crave dust in your machines!  I have already talked about these covers, but I wanted to have another go at it....plus here is the plastic quilted one I bought for the Pfaff....I love the pockets...

All in all covers are the best idea. Nothing exciting in the sewing room at present. Working on a quilt I will keep under wraps until finished, and the doldrums of Late Summer have worn off.  It is larger, and is being quilted with OMNI thread on the top and So Fine 60 on the bobbin. Large sweeping curves with my AcuFeed on my Elna. Love that technique, but it takes time.
